happy valentine’s day

i love love and i’ve always loved valentine’s day. i was lucky enough to spend valentine’s day with some of my favorite people – my friends dom, kendall, nick and my mama. it was an extension of my birthday celebrations (a full birthday recap will be up this weekend once mom and i return from the bay/napa).

while red is not a color i often wear, i saw this dress a couple of months ago and knew it had to be worn this week.

i fell in love with this city chic dress in black a couple of years ago and wore it to the veuve polo classic. when i came across the same dress in red on the nordstrom app with a belt and on sale, i had to have it. it was originally $99 (which i would have happily paid, especially for a full outfit) – i got it on sale for $59! you can find this little number here.

city chic is a brand that carries a variety of sizes and has everything from dresses to blazers to leather joggers. i have a few of their pieces but this dress is my absolute favorite.

how did you spend valentine’s day? and what did you wear?

happy new year with happy jewelers

phew. to say that i am thrilled to start a new year would be the understatement of the century. 2021 was filled with the highest highs and the lowest lows. ironically, back in may of 2021, my dear friend melissa and i made a pact to spend new year’s eve together. little did i know that in august of 2021, melissa would be the one to set the ball in motion to be sure i made it to the hospital (where i ended up staying for 35 days with covid). fortunately, i am now healthier than ever and was able to make the trek to sacramento to visit melissa in her new home.

december was a big month for her. she had a birthday, started a new job, moved into a new home and had her first official house guest – me! i definitely had to get her a few things to celebrate. my favorite gift was one that i got for us both.

our initial rings are from happy jewelers. in addition to being gorgeous, understated and super dainty, i love that the rings are adjustable and come in three different metals. i got melissa yellow gold and rose gold for myself. they are definitely rings that can be worn daily and if you are into stacking, they are perfect. my friend hayley is a jeweler there and uploaded a video to show how to adjust/wear it. if you are looking for the perfect gift, look no further.

what did you do to celebrate the new year? we stayed in, watched the newest sex and the city episodes and had much needed quality time paired with cocktails. misu was in heaven being all cozied up with blankets and his auntie.

happy new year from me (melissa and happy jewelers) to you!

christmas 2021

anyone that knows me knows that i do not typically love christmas. however, after the most tumultuous year of my life to date, i figured a little holiday cheer was necessary. luckily, my brother was willing to oblige.

for all of my fellow hip hop lovers, our crewnecks are paying homage to “area codes” by the one and only, ludacris. if this kind of christmas sweater is up your alley, you can find it on amazon ranging in sizes xs to 5xl in green, red and black. i let pooh bear pick his color first and it worked out perfect since red is his favorite and green is mine.

my little brother has been a constant source of support and inspiration in my life. this year has been on another level. there is no one i’d rather spend christmas with.

happy holidays from me and mine to you and yours!

a little leopard never hurt anyone

can you blame me for reminiscing about being on vacation after a 12 hour work day? while i normally love swim separates, this one piece from asos caught my eye in the fall (back when i thought i’d be spending the week before christmas in kauai).

it’s fun, it’s flirty and can easily be paired with a skirt or some shorts to create a little outfit.

i tend to gravitate towards swimsuits with wire/structure. while this one doesn’t have that, it does have this black belt that loops around just under the bust near the natural waistline. definitely adds a little something extra.

because i was more concerned with cocktail time than thinking of photos for my blog, i have included a couple from the actual website so you could see the suit in all its glory.

since this number is sold out, i have included a few of my favorite one pieces from asos.

1. this mixed print black and white number is to die for!

2. an all white ruffled one piece would be perfect for those bachelorette parties this summer

3. a sleek and sexy one piece in black? count me in.

4. florals for spring? groundbreaking.

summer is calling my name!

at the beginning of the month, i was fortunate enough to spend a week in puerto rico with some of the most wonderful humans i know. while a recap of the trip will likely be up eventually, i had to show you all one of my new swimsuits from old navy right now!

something i love is that you can mix and match them since they are sold as separates. and, if you are fuller on top or in the trunk, you can buy the size to accommodate that. old navy has tons of bathing suits that are inclusive in size.

i don’t know if it is because the weather forecast shows that it’s going to be in the 80s this weekend or if it is me being water obsessed but summer really is calling my name. i will be posting more suits soon. i hope everyone’s week is off to a solid start.
